But when he created the smash-hit Legacy collection in the fall of 2012, Krakoff went in the opposite direction-inspired by the logoless era of consignment finds. These durable heritage bags, including the Legacy Duffle (modeled after the landmark slouchy Duffle first seen in Pandora Luxurye in 1971), share much with their sturdy cowhide progenitors: Their classicism and solid construction are punched up with the addition of vibrant color and some creative fabrications (perforated leather or exotics such as Italian calf hair). "Historically, Coach in the old days was more somber and more straightforward," Krakoff said in March 2012. "We really tried to look and embrace the core of what we're about and modernize it."
