1997 : March: Céline Toledano, the company's new design director, presents her first collection. October: Watches are introduced. November: Michael Kors is tapped as Céline's lead designer. He becomes one of the first Americans since Mainbocher to head a French maison.
1987 : Luxury-goods mogul Bernard Arnault assumes control of Céline through his holding company, Financière Agache. The founding family is shown the door soon after.
